Effects of preemptive analgesia with intravenous acetaminophen on postoperative pain relief in patients undergoing third molar surgery: a prospective…
2020
Background The efficacy of preemptive analgesia in managing postoperative pain remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of intravenous (IV) acetaminophen administered before or immediately after the surgical extraction of an impacted mandibular third molar. Material and Methods This prospective randomized clinical trial included 120 patients. The patients were assigned to one of three groups: the preoperative-treatment group (pre-group), which received 1000 mg of IV acetaminophen 20 min before surgery; the postoperative-treatment group (post-group), which received 1000 mg of IV acetaminophen after surgery; the no-treatment group (control-group), which did not…
Application of tRNS to improve multiple sclerosis fatigue: a pilot, single-blind, sham-controlled study
2019
We evaluated the effects of transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) on fatigue in 17 subjects with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis with low physical disability. Two different patient groups underwent real or sham stimulation for 10 days, targeting the primary motor cortex of the dominant side or contralateral to the most compromised limb. In the ‘real group’, beneficial effects were observed using the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (p = 0.04; physical subscale: p = 0.03), the subscales ‘change in health’ (p = 0.006) and ‘role limitations due to physical problems’ (p = 0.001) of the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54, and by assessing the patient impression of perceived fatigue…
The effects of three remineralizing agents on regression of white spot lesions in children: A two-week, single-blind, randomized clinical trial.
2016
Background This study investigated the effect of three remineralizing agents on improving white spot lesions (WSLs). Material and Methods This clinical trial included children who had at least one WSL on anterior teeth of upper or lower jaws. The participants were randomly assigned to 4 groups by treatment: 1) a cream containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate and fluoride (MI Paste Plus); 2) a cream containing hydroxyapatite and fluoride (Remin Pro); 3) a 2% sodium fluoride gel; and 4) usual home care (control). The treatment was performed for 3 times over 10 days using special trays for retaining remineralizing agents. The area and mineral content of WSLs were measured a…
Effect of in situ aspartame mouthwash to prevent intrinsic and extrinsic erosive tooth wear
2020
Background The aim was to evaluate whether aspartame regular mouthwash prior to erosive challenges with citric or hydrochloric acids would be able to prevent erosive enamel wear. Material and methods This randomized, single blind in situ study was conducted with 3 crossover phases of 5 days. Polished bovine enamel blocks (n=252) were randomly divided among 6 groups/ 3 phases/ 21 volunteers. The groups under study were: aspartame solution (0.024% of aspartame in deionized water - experimental group), deionized water (negative-control) and stannous-containing solution (Elmex® Erosion Protection Dental Rinse; positive-control); subjected to erosion on citric acid or hydrochloric acid. Four tim…
